Soon comes the cold,
and the night that never ends.
Today was like any other day. Shay woke, did her normal routine, and took care of the animals under her supervision. Moving into the horses stalls she checked on her pregnant mare. “Alrighty Isabelle. You’re doing well girl.” She spoke gently to the white mare. She loved this horse ever since she got her when she graduated from school. Her father had bought her from an abusive owner and thankfully she was able to recover without worry. Doing her routine chores the day went by quickly. She took care of this place all on her own while a young high schooler would occasionally help be receptionist. Normally though people just called her cell and she was able to make house calls unless they needed more room for their animals to heal. Wiping at her forehead she smiled happy with the progress of her day. The sun was high in the sky and she looked at her clock. It had shown up when she turned twenty five like everyone else’s. But she had wished her father could’ve lived long enough to see it. She remembered the day he timed out. Shortly after her ex had left her for his dream, and before she was accepted into college. It was just bad news after bad news. A soft sigh left her lips as she whistled for her dog Annabelle. Hearing the dog’s bark she smiled and headed back as the copper spotted Brittany Spaniel caught up to her master. She had fed all the animals, cleaned their stalls, checked vitals. Now she could have the day to herself some as her mother and sister weren’t back yet from wherever it is they had disappeared to that morning. Shay needed to get out of the house, but she didn't really have anyone to go out with. She didn't need anyone to go out with but she felt so awkward not going out with people. She'd kept away from the wild parties for a few years now that Sector 2 was also known for. Ever since her terrible break with Jace she didn't know how she could really get back into the party life. Thinking about it now, she was surprised she hadn't drank herself into an alcoholic coma. “Alright Annabelle… be a good girl while mama is away.” She said and grabbed the keys to her truck. Going outside she locked the door and got in her truck. Turning on the radio she flipped through a few channels before switching it off again. Getting into town she parked her truck in front of one of the local bars. She needed a stronger drink than the wine she had at home. Adjusting the flannel shirt a little she dropped from her truck and walked inside. She didn’t bother to look around the bar. Most the faces in this place were regulars and she didn’t want to be bothered. Today, her heart was hurting because of the memories. It’s been seven years to the day after putting her daughter up for adoption. Pulling out her phone she opened it and looked at the background of the brunette girl smiling back. Taking a seat at the bar she held up a finger and the bartender smiled. “SHAY! Double bourbon on the rocks right?” Shay smiled and laughed some. “You know me too well Mason.” Shay placed her phone down as Mason made her drink. ✘ NOTES, TAGS, WORD COUNTS, ANYTHING GOES HERE.
